HEAVY DUTY ELECTRO CLEANER

DESCRIPTION:

Triple-s SM-277 is a heavy duty alkaline electro cleaner for the cleansing and de-scaling of ferrous metals prior to electroplating. SM-277 has an exceptional ability to remove rust, weld scale, and smut from metals at room temperature.

PRODUCTION ADVANTAGES:

  • Can be used with periodic or reverse current.
  • Heavily fortified with emulsifiers and dispersants for removal of fabricating oils and compounds.
  • Produces superior results in removing tenacious smut from steel.
  • It is also used for anodic stripping of chromed plated parts.

EQUIPMENT RECOMMENDED:

Steel tanks are satisfactory. In the case of heating, steel steam coils, immersion heaters, or gas flames are used.

OPERATING CONDITIONS:

Concentration: 8 to 12 oz./gallon.
Temperature: Room temperature.
Time: 1 minute.
Current Density: 50 to 100 amp./ft square.
Voltage: 6-12 volts, anodic current.

TYPICAL ELECTRO CLEANING CYCLE:

  1. Soak clean in SM-255.
  2. Cold water rinse.
  3. Electro clean with SM-77.
  4. Cold water rinse.
  5. Muriatic acid dip (30%).
  6. Cold water rinse.
  7. Plate.

STRIPPING METALLIC COATING:

In stripping metallic coatings, SM-277 will strip chrome plating from nickel without attacking the base metal. In this case, reverse current is employed.

CAUTION:

SM-277 contains sodium hydroxide. Contact with skin or eyes may cause irritation and burns. The same safety precautions should be observed as when handling caustic soda type materials. Personnel should wear rubber gloves, aprons, and eye protection when handling SM-277. Keep out of reach of children!. Do not take internally!

FIRST AID:

In case of skin contact, wash with plenty of water. For eye contact, flush immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and call a physician.
