Clear Chromate for Aluminum

DESCRIPTION:

Triple-s 148-C-AL is a liquid compound used to produce a protective coating on aluminum or aluminum alloy. The coating produced provides protection for aluminum and also is an excellent bond for clear organic coatings. 148 - C - AL is an approved material to be used by methods A and C (spray and immersion processing) to produce class 3 coatings, bare or painted, in accordance with military specification MIL-C-5541B.

OPERATING CONDITIONS:

Bath make-up: 5% in plain water.
Temperature: Room temperature.
Immersion time: 30 seconds to 1 minute.
Spray time: 15 to 30 seconds.
pH: below 40.

PROCESS SEQUENCE:

  • Clean in AC-220 or in SM-405.
  • Rinse.
  • Desmut/deoxidize with DX-232.
  • Rinse.
  • Coat with 148-C-AL.
  • Rinse.
  • Dry the work after processing and drying is ready for use, either painted or unpainted.

NOTE: When aluminum to be treated with 148-C-AL has corrosion or heavy oxide on the surface, the corrosion or heavy oxide should be removed by installing two additional tanks between operation 2 & 3; one tank for Deoxidizing with DX-232 or DX-238-L, and one tank for additional cold water.
