Blue-Black C - 44
For Copper

Tri blue C-44 is a concentrated liquid for producing blue-black color tones on solid or plated Copper, Brass & Bronze at room temperature. Tri blue C-44 is used primarily for decorative purposes to produce a blue-black color finish.

OPERATING CONDITIONS
Concentration: 1 part Tri blue C-44 to 2 parts of water.
Temperature: 65º - 75º F.
Time: 10 - 60 seconds.
Tank: Acid resistant containers (plastic, P.V.C. or Polyethylene).

Color Formation:

Color formation is depended upon time of immersion and concentration of solution. For a dark black finish, dilute the solution with 1 part of water and the immersion time should be 10-60 seconds depending on the desired color.

Surface Preparation:

  • Clean the part with Cleaner 104 (1 part of Cleaner 104 to 2 parts of water).
  • Rinse with overflowing cold water.
  • Immerse pieces in Tri blue C-44 solution for 10 to 60 seconds. Agitate the parts to break air bubbles and to assure solution contact with all surfaces. Plastic baskets should be used for small pieces.
  • Rinse thoroughly with over flowing cold water, to stop chemical reaction.
  • It is recommended that a protective lacquer Trilac 747 or WSL-55 (clear or black, water-soluble) be applied to the coating to provide maximum life. Parts can be immersed in a water-soluble lacquer while still wet from the preceding rinse, or can be sealed.

Bath Maintenance:

Since blackening with Tri blue C-44 is a chemical reaction between the solution and metal surface, the chemical activity will diminish as the solution is used. When the time required to produce the desired color increases, add 5% by volume of Tri blue C-44 liquid concentrate.

Caution:

The Tri blue C-44 is a mildly acidic solution. Avoid contact with the skin or eyes. Protective clothing, gloves, and a face shield should be worn when operating. In case of contact, flush skin or eyes with plenty of water. For eyes, call a physician. Tri blue C-44 liquid is poisonous; do not take internally!
