TRI BROWN C-1 For Copper and Brass |
|
Tribrown C-1 is a concentrated liquid for producing oxidized color tones on Copper, Brass and Bronze at room temperature. Tribrown C-1 is used primarily for decorative purposes to produce bronze, light brown to medium brown finishes.
OPERATING CONDITIONS:
| Concentration: |
1 part Tribrown C-1 to 5 parts of water (by volume). |
| Temperature: |
65 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. |
| Time: |
10 to 60 seconds. |
| Tanks: |
Acid resistant containers (plastic, P.V.C. or Polyethylene) |
COLOR DEVELOPMENT:
Color development depends on the time the metal is exposed to the solution. For a lighter brown dilute the solution with 2-3 parts of water and increase the immersion time to 1-2 minutes or until the color of your choice develops.
SURFACE PREPARATION:
Parts should be free of grease, alkalinity or acidity when Immersed in Tribrown C-1 solution.
- Clean the part with Cleaner 104
|
- Immerse pieces in Tribrown C-1 for the time necessary to achieve the desired color. For small parts, stainless steel or plastic baskets should be used and often simple tumbling is enough.
|
- Rinse thoroughly with over flowing cold water, to stop chemical reaction.
|
- The finish is easily relieved by brushing or by mechanical polishing to produce a varitey of antique finishes. Tumble or vibrate the parts in sawdust to produce a uniform finish. Large pieces can be wiped dry or buffed.
|
- It is recommended that a clear water based lacquer (e.g. WSL-55 ) be applied to the coating to provide maximum life.
|
Bath Maintenance
Because this process is a chemical reaction of the solution and the metal, the chemical activity will diminish as the solution is contaminated. This will be observed when the time required to develop the color increases, at this point you should add 5% by volume of Tribrown C-1 solution to make the solution strong again.
Caution:
Tribrown C-1 is a mildly acidic solution. Avoid contact with the skin or eyes. Protective clothing, gloves, and a face shield should be worn when operating. In case of contact, flush skin or eyes with plenty of water. For eyes, call a physician. Tribrown C-1 liquid is poisonous; Do not take internally !
